What are
Governors? Governors are responsible for the decision making
regarding the overall running of our school federation. We
meet twice a term, alternating between the Infant and the
Junior schools.
At Silverstone,
when the two schools federated in 2004, we formed a new
governing body made up of governors from both schools as well
as newly elected ones. |
The
make-up of the Governing Body:
|
- Headteacher
|
|
1 |
- Parent Governors
|

- Community Governors
|

- Foundation Governors
|

- LEA Governors

- Staff Governors

The role of the Governors:
- To monitor and
evaluate educational standards within our schools,
following the National Curriculum.
- To be
responsible for the buildings and the general health and
safety
within the schools.
- To make sure
that the aims and values of the schools are upheld.
- To interview and
select staff.
- To set the
school budgets, and make sure that the schools provide
good value for money. All of our
School Governors have legal duties, powers and
responsibilities. We work as a body and have no individual
powers. |
School
Governors are:
- Parents.
- Staff at the
schools.
- Representatives
of the LEA, the church and the local community
|
Parent Governors:
- Have a child in
school at the start of their term of office.
- Are elected by
parents of the schools.

Why are parents
on the Governing Body?
Parent Governors bring the
views of parents to the Governing Body, but they speak and act
as individuals. They have equal status in the work of the
Governing Body and have voting rights. They are not on the
governing body to promote the rights of their own child.
The minutes of
Governing Body meetings are available at the school office for
all parents to see. The Chair of Governors can always be
contacted via the schools. |
