Friends of Silverstone Schools |
Welcome to the Friends Page!
|
Who are we?
We are a group of parents with children at the village schools who work together with
the schools, their representatives and the community to raise awareness and funding for the schools in the village (including the pre-school) and have fun in the process!
|
What do we do?
The funding we raise is targeted at the provision of additional resources and
experiences for the children that central government and LEA funding is unable to provide.
|
In the past few years we are very proud to have been able to fund
|
- This website!
|
- Christmas presents for all classes
|
- Coaches for school trips
|
- Reading books for both schools
|
- Visiting theatre companies
|
- Interactive whiteboard and projector
|
- Laminating machines
|
|
- A PA system
|
|
- Sports equipment
|
|
|
How do we do it?
Some of the events provide good fund-raising potential, others are to just provide fun for the family. Below is a small selection of events we have held; |
- Halloween party at the Infant School
- The Christmas Fayre (joining with the Pre-School)
- Art Exhibition at the Junior School
- May Frolics and promises auction
- Silverstone Circuit cycle ride
- Coffee afternoons for the whole village
- Discos for the Junior School
- Annual dinner dance at Whittlebury Park with auction

The Committee
The FOSS hold an AGM in the autumn term where the Committee is elected for
the coming year. The Committee is made up of parents who share an interest in
making a difference for their children’s schools. We also ask for people to put
themselves on the Helpers' list, this is for people who would like to be
involved but not necessarily on the Committee.
Meetings are held at members houses and are a good way for parents to meet one
another. We discuss the events that will take place throughout the coming year.
Once ideas are established sub committees are then formed for each of the events.
Forming these sub committees has worked well as it allows people to work on events
that are of particular interest to them. We pull together every other month to discuss
progress and consider the direction of future events.
|
How do I join?
We are always looking for new volunteers, whether for the committee or for the
"helpers list". If you would like to get involved please speak to a member of staff
at your school and they will get you in touch with a FOSS member . |
